Learner's schedule: Sanitation Safety Planning

This online workshop is on Sanitation Safety Planning (SSP) and it will take you approximately 8 hours to complete.

This workshop was developed by Dr Mirko Winkler from Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute and Lena Breitenmoser from University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW in conjunction with the WHO, who funded the development of these materials.

It is based on the first edition of the Sanitation Safety planning Manual: https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/9789241549240.

This workshop is broken up onto four parts. It is based on a case study from the Pavitra Ganga Project.

Part 1

Download the Sanitation Safety Planning Manual Edition 1 (https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/9789241549240) and the SSP Student worksheets.

Now watch the Course Introduction and the Introduction to Sanitation Safety Planning videos and read the Sanitation Safety Planning Manual pages 1-5.

Part 2

Read the Case Study document which will give you some basic information about the context of the Pavitra Ganga project.

Part 3

Watch the videos on SSP Modules 3-4 and the Risk Assessment Exercise.

Read SSP Manual pages 40-67 which accompanies the first video.

Now complete Worksheet 2: Modules 3.1-3.4 (simplified) and decide on the highest risk.

Then review the activity with the highest risk and complete Worksheet 3: Module 4 (simplified).

Watch the video on SSP Modules 5-6, and read the accompanying sections in the SSP manual.

Review the paper on the case study

Now you have finished this workshop review the paper on the case study.

This case study focuses only on modules 1 - 3 of the SSP process and the effluent, but is based on the Pavitra Ganga project and the novel technology which you worked with.
