PAVITRA GANGA is setting up a new demonstration site at the Jajmau Wastewater Treatment Plant in Kanpur and working with the LOTUS HR project at the existing demonstration site at the Barapullah Drain New Delhi.
The Barapullah drain systems discharges the waste water of 3.4 million New Delhi citizens into the Yamuna river. The drain receives 1.25 million litres of wastewater with variable quality conditions from both households and domestic industries. The temperatures vary depending on the seasons and the wastewater is strongly diluted during the monsoon.
The capacity of the three sewage treatment plans in Kanpur city is largely insufficient for the generated sewage water and only 50% is treated. Analysis of the sewage water show high concentrations of chromium (Cr) and other heavy metals like cadmium (Cd).
